stars newcomer Amybeth McNulty as the titular Anne Shirley Cuthbert ("please be sure to spell 'Anne' with an 'e,'" she commands), a 13-year-old orphan in 1980s Prince Edward Island who gets a shot at something happier than her abusive and lonely childhood. Her change of fortune occurs when she is mistakenly sent to live with an aging pair of siblings who have requested a boy to assist them. Upon learning of the "mistake," the siblings plan to send Anne back, but Anne resists, proclaiming, "Girls can do anything a boy can do, and more!" (YAS.) Apparently, the argument is effective, because Anne gets to stay and finally finds a place she can call home in the beautiful town of Green Gables.
