Like so many other organizations and institutions, College Democrats of America (CDA) faced a major reckoning in the summer of 2020, the effects of which linger present day. That June, Matthew Nowling, then the group’s communications director and the only Black member of its executive board, accused his fellow board members of racism and resigned from his position. As an arm of the Democratic National Committee, CDA is in proximity to the epicenter of Democratic politics.
