When Jughead and Betty pay another visit to Ethel, she gets squeamish because if any of them talk to grown-ups, “he’s” going to get angry. She maintains that she and Ben really were dating and just as she’s pointing out that Dilton died right after trying to talk to Jughead, she has a seizure. Betty tries to help and notices Evelyn watching from across the room… protec skate Betty and Jughead, meanwhile, have been banned from doing any investigating by their parents, but that doesn’t stop B from sneaking out. #Bughead roam the woods looking for Ethel, chatting about her seizure and how B isn’t worried about it, and stumble upon the Gargoyle King/cow skull/altar thing…which starts moving toward them? They run, all the way to Pop’s (where they express relief that the Gargoyle King runs slow) and examine Dilton’s map to try and figure out where the bunker is and why Ethel ditched them. Betty floats a theory that the GK structure was Ethel on stilts, which I doubt is what happened but makes this whole Gargoyle King plot seem way less scary to me. Also, a free idea: dinner-and-a-movie date nights are just as romantic as solving a cult plot.
